Blog Due 1/25: Analysis of Genesis 24-27

An aspect of the biblical reading from the “King James Bible” and “The Old Testament and Rationalistic Biblical Criticism” ultimately connect to each other in an analytical sense. In Genesis 24-27, some human scientifically impossible factors are mentioned that Pomazansky argued should not be trusted by the followers of the Bible. “The Old Testament and Rationalistic Biblical Criticism” seems to disagree with the “King James Bible” because of the content specifically mentioned in Genesis not scientifically being able to happen.

Within Genesis 24-27, it is mentioned that Abraham is getting really old. As Abrham passes away, “his sons Issac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah”(Genesis 25:9). Earlier it mentioned that he was 175 years old when he passed away. Scientifically speaking, this is incredibly impossible to live this long. This set up perfect a perfect argument for Pomazansky where he stated, “This so-called “scientific” biblical criticism is a product of the Protestant world” (Pomansky par. 4). This illustrates that the author does not agree with numerous stories from the Bible that go against science. Also he means that the “believers” religion is made up of non-scientific evidence. Obviously, if one is not a believer, an indivual might take the common sense standpoint and say science is correct.

However, Pomazansky included a view point for the “believer” standpoint. In paragraph 12 he stated, “The Christian’s attitude towards the Old Testament is determined by the teachings of the Saviour” (Pomazansky par. 12).This iluustartes that if one believes in Christianity, than they are going to beleive in the bible. This is a very true statement preceding the bible for ones who practice. Another quote that could defy science states, ” And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people” (Genesis 25:17). This signifies another instance of age of a human being scientifically impossible. However as mentioned by Pomazansky, a believer of the holy literature will not once deny that one has lived this long.

Pomazansky included sort of a rebuttal when he said, “Nevertheless, even these facts do not mean that the Old Testament loses its value in Christianity”(Pomazansky par. 13). This demonstrates that he is going against his own views of the Bible going against science and saying that the Old Testament won’t lose its values as the future arises. As mentioned in the Bible numerous times, The Old Testament is a sacred text that will never lose it values to the believers of Christianity. Both these texts relate to each other as Pomazansky depicts the science behind what happened in the Bible. He tends to differ with what is stated but he leans towards the Christian believers side towards the middle of the text.
